Neuron Surpasses One Million Flights With AI-Powered QoE Management Platform for Commercial Aircraft

May 21, 2024

Highlights

  • Neuron has reached a milestone of delivering independent, actionable intelligence on in-flight connectivity and quality of experience on more than one million flights and counting, with live deployments on more than 1,200 commercial aircraft.
  • Neuron also announced today that Delta Air Lines has entered into an agreement with Neuron to elevate in-flight connectivity and digital experiences.
  • Neuron provides airlines with a holistic view of all the connectivity performance and end-user digital experience insights they need on one vendor-neutral platform, including a QoE score that gives an instant snapshot for making better operational decisions.

Today, we’re thrilled to share that Neuron has delivered independent, actionable intelligence on in-flight connectivity and quality of experience (QoE) on more than one million flights to date, with live deployments on more than 1,200 commercial aircraft. We also announced today that Delta Air Lines has entered into an agreement with Neuron to elevate in-flight connectivity and digital experiences. As we celebrate these milestones and gear up for AIX 2024, we want to share more about what makes the Neuron platform unique in the aviation industry.

In-flight connectivity (IFC) that mirrors the home experience is the ultimate goal. Passengers want to get online, use their everyday applications on their personal devices, and experience a consistent high-speed until landing. However, regulatory, technical and commercial realities create a gap between expectations and what’s possible, particularly on an aircraft flying maximum speed at high altitude. As a result, many customers have become resigned to poor service, and often just give up or don’t even try to connect. While free Wi-Fi can help, it puts more pressure on the existing solution and can still negatively affect customer satisfaction if it doesn’t work well. All of this is compounded by a lack of real-time visibility into IFC performance and its impact on passenger experience.

The First AI-Powered QoE Management Platform for Commercial Aircraft

Neuron provides full visibility of IFC performance with the first AI-powered QoE management platform for commercial aircraft. Unlike legacy solutions, Neuron’s QoE measuring, monitoring and analytics solutions deliver independent, actionable intelligence – calculated in real-time, on every aircraft in a connected fleet, without the need for manual IFC testing. Now, airlines can get a holistic view of all the data they need in one place, including a QoE score that gives an instant snapshot for making better operational decisions.

Breaking Down Neuron’s Solutions for QoE Visibility and Control

Today, the Neuron platform offers three interlinked products with incremental capabilities that allows for flexible deployment.

  • Neuron Pulse: Our low-bandwidth QoE measuring and monitoring solution, Neuron Pulse, provides real-time visibility of IFC performance and end-user QoE on each connected aircraft. A clear QoE score for different applications, such as browsing and streaming, gives a holistic view of the passenger digital experience. Pulse can be deployed on hundreds of aircraft overnight via an onboard server or iOS app.
  • Neuron 360: Our end-to-end connectivity and QoE analytics solution, Neuron 360, takes Pulse to the next level by integrating real-time connectivity data from the antennas, routers and third-party systems throughout an airline’s end-to-end network. It provides comprehensive analytics dashboards to quickly pinpoint issues and make better decisions to improve connectivity operations and the onboard digital experience.
  • Neuron Grid: Our dynamic, AI-powered network management solution, Neuron Grid, performs the ultimate task of optimizing onboard QoE. It correlates all the real-time data from Pulse and 360 to make traffic routing decisions at a pace that’s not humanly possible. In the future, as aviation requirements evolve, airlines can use Grid to dynamically route traffic to the right satellite network at the right time.

Independent, Actionable Intelligence to Move Your IFC Forward

With Neuron, airlines can manage performance more effectively to enhance the passenger experience and operational efficiency, and lay the foundation for delivering new, more personalized digital experiences to always stay ahead. For example, IFC teams can use Neuron to:

  • Get Continuous Visibility: Replace manual, ad hoc data collection with automated, real-time QoE measurement and monitoring that’s independent on all aircraft throughout a fleet.
  • Identify Network Trouble Spots: Determine trends for poor performance on particular routes to drive discussions on increasing capacity in specific locations and time windows, and define future SLAs.
  • Boost NPS and customer loyalty: Improve NPS and gain insights into passenger application use to better align IFC packages with their expectations.
  • Enhance ROI: Determine the sweet spot between bandwidth capacity per aircraft and improved NPS to make better procurement decisions and reduce Wi-Fi refunds.
  • Build new revenue streams: Leverage insights into passenger behavior to target new content partnerships that bridge IFC and IFE.

Accelerate the Future of IFC

Mike Moeller, SVP of Aviation at Neuron, and a long-time IFC veteran, sums it up nicely, “The industry has been talking about the independent measurement of the passenger experience for many years, but the reality is that for a long time, the primary method of testing IFC from a passenger experience standpoint has been having people fly and provide anecdotal feedback on whether or not it worked well. Neuron has found the “secret sauce” with our thin client approach and AI solutions to accurately predict the passenger experience. There’s no need for manual IFC testing – it can all be done in the background on a server or with an iPhone app. Now, airlines can finally get a real-time, accurate view of each flight’s QoE, and tools for post-flight analytics that can be sliced and diced to get a holistic, 360-degree view of the IFC experience.”
